Pursuit was formed in 2019 to offer adults with disabilities adaptive sports and recreation opportunities in the Northern Virginia, DC, and Maryland areas. Pursuit is a 501(c)(3) membership organization that continually forms partnerships to organize several adaptive sports and recreation opportunities per month.
To enhance the health and well-being of adults with physical disabilities through adaptive sports and recreation.

Our Team
Carol Corso, MPH, PCC
Carol has almost 40 years of experience in management and leadership in nonprofit organizations. She was the Director of the Washington, D.C. office of a major global health nonprofit, Program for Appropriate Technology in Health. Carol is the founder and principal of Abramonte Global Coaching Group (AGCG) that provides leadership and management coaching to individuals and nonprofit organizations. She was also a founding board member and chair of Simple Changes Therapeutic Riding Center, in Lorton, Virginia. Carol is currently an adjunct faculty member at George Mason University where she teaches public health. She is passionate about health and well-being and recreation for all.

Lia Winnard, CTRS
Lia is a nationally certified therapeutic recreation specialist and has participated in many adaptive sports and recreation opportunities from a young age. She is an avid para swimmer and has raced in national Paralympic open swim events. Lia also learned how to ski, horseback ride and kayak through adaptive sports programs and wants to share similar opportunities with others with physical disabilities in the area through Pursuit. Lia graduated with a degree in recreation therapy from George Mason University. She is passionate about adaptive sports and is eager to facilitate a supportive network and community for others to enjoy adaptive sports and recreation in Northern Virginia.
Recreation Therapist
Jamie Gibbs
Jamie received her certification in web design after completing her Bachelor’s of Fine Arts at Longwood University. She is an enthusiastic cyclist as she rides through Northern Virginia. Jamie learned how to horseback ride and play adapted baseball and soccer when she was young. She is currently studying for her Master’s in Assistive Technology at George Mason University, as she is passionate about helping people with disabilities find technology that enables them to lead successful lives. Jamie is excited to be part of the Pursuit team and to help Pursuit build a community of people with disabilities who enjoy adaptive sports and recreation in the DC, Maryland, and Virginia area.
